Dear colleagues and friends,
On Sunday 21st February the qualified tourist guides and their associations around the world are going to celebrate once again the International Tourist Guide Day 2016.
This has been a special day for us since 1985, when our dear colleague Titina Loizidou from Cyprus - then President of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations - first had the idea of celebrating a day for the promotion of our tourist guide profession across the world.
Ever since, this day has grown into a really important event for all of us, tourist guides, their partners and friends, the society in general.
More tourist guide associations and federations have been joining FEG and the WFTGA and more people around the globe have the benefit to meet professional our tourist guides in their own countries of qualification and attend their free guided tours to be offered each year on the 21st February. Or sometimes even for more days.
Thanks to you all, my colleagues, the tourist guides for offering so many free tours and organising various events across Europe and the world,
Thanks to our tourism partners and stakeholders, who trust us, consult us and respect our work for decades,
Thanks to the groups and individuals, who keep choosing to see and experience our countries, our cultural and natural heritage through our eyes,
Thanks to the open-minded and inspired tourism policy makers, who have realised that guiding means representing our countries' and Europe's image as a destination and interpreting our heritage,
I wish to all a happy International Tourist Guide Day for 2016 and may each year bring more new ideas, inspiration and people to be guided by our dear colleagues in tours on this special day.
